For those of us who are lucky enough to have the perfect figure and physique, general eating habits will more often than not provide the required intake of essential building-blocks.

If you decide to diet you have obviously got to shape (excuse the pun) your eating and drinking habits without comprising the regeneration and rebuilding capabilities of the human body.

 

* Firstly, you should know how many calories you are allowed per day to maintain your weight. There are many books on the subject as well as calculators and charts free for all to use on the internet.

 

* Don’t just eat foodstuffs which are all part of the same group. Instead choose nutritious food from different groups. Fruit, vegetables, fish are all good sources of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

 

* Unrefined whole-grain foods contain fibre that can help low the blood cholesterol.

 

* Meat is best eaten lean and poultry should be eaten minus its skin.

 

* Eat low-fat or fat-free dairy products.

 

* Research has shown that eating oily fish (which contains omega-3) lowers the risk of contracting coronary artery disease.

 

* Try not to eat food and drink beverages with added sugar.

If you follow this advice, drink alcohol in moderation and don’t smoke, then you may see past your 60th birthday – if you can avoid getting hit when crossing the road!!
